Dr. Bill Charman is a Sir John Monash Distinguished Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University and the Chair of the FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) Education Committee. He was previously the Founding Director of the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (from 2007 to 2017) and the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University from 2007 through June 2019. He received his B. Pharm. from the Victorian College of Pharmacy (now Monash University) in 1981, and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (with honours) from the University of Kansas in 1985. He has received many national and international drug discovery, pharmaceutical science, and professional awards during his career. He is recognized by Thomson Reuters/Clarivate Analytics as a Highly Cited Researcher in the field of Pharmacology and Toxicology. His research has been characterized by a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to address major issues in drug discovery (especially for neglected diseases such as malaria), drug delivery and the pharmaceutical sciences. He has published more than 370 scientific papers and communications and given more than 200 invited national and international presentations. Previously, he was Chairman of the Wellcome Trust Seeding Drug Discovery Funding Committee, a member of the Expert Scientific Advisory Committee of the Medicines for Malaria Venture, an advisor to the World Health Organization, a co-founder and Non-Executive Director of Acrux Limited, and a Chair/Member of Scientific Advisory Boards and two Corporate Boards.
